Google has announced Android Wear, a new platform for smart watches and wearable devices. Android wear is an optimised version of popular mobile operating system Android, specifically designed for Smart watches and other wearable devices. Android wear will be first available for Smart watches only. Google has announced that, they are working with several consumer electronics manufacturers like Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung; chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm to introduce watches powered by Android Wear later this year.
Android Wear – Features and Functions
Like Android, it’s wearable OS version comes with lots of inbuilt features and functions. They are as follows.
Instant notification and Useful info
Android wear gives you useful information and notifications at the right time. It means that you will receive the latest posts and updates from your favorite social apps, chats from your preferred messaging apps, notifications from shopping, news, photography apps, and more. In just a single touch, you can view today’s weather, notification about when your next meeting begins, how many time takes for travel and other important stuffs.
Voice reply and Asking Questions
After reading a message, just say ‘Reply’ followed by the information to be replied. The message will be instantly passed to the other end. Android wear has also got the ability to answer the questions you ask. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions. For example, Just say “Ok Google, Restaurants nearby ”. You will receive the list of restaurants near to you.
Monitor health and fitness
Your favourite fitness apps will give you real time notifications about your health and fitness. The apps can notify about the calories you’ve burned, the distance you travelled, reminders about your exercise goals and much more.
Controlling other devices
Android Wear gives you access to control other devices. You can fire up a music playlist on your phone, cast your favorite movie to your TV, or search for details of a song played in the surroundings.
The developers of Android Wear have also released the Developer Preview, to make the Android apps in Google Play compatible with the wearable version. Also we can expect lots of new apps for Android Wear in the coming days.
