LAN cable can be used to transfer files at very high speeds between computers. Sharing data through other means such as bluetooth may take more time than LAN cable. While transferring movies, music or other files between two PC’s or between laptops or between laptop and PC, LAN cables can be used for faster transmission.
To initialise sharing of data, it is necessary to do necessary changes in the settings in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. For that, go browse Settings>Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing center. On the left sidebar click on advanced sharing settings. Browse ‘All networks’. Turn ON public folder sharing and in Media Sharing tab, click on ‘Choose media streaming options’. Click on ‘Turn on media streaming’. Turn OFF password protected sharing for easiness as it is safe that we are transferring data through LAN cable. Now the first step is over. Open ‘My computer’ Click on ‘Network’ from the left sidebar. Now you will be able to see your computer’s name there. Click on that, in the window that opens open the folder named ‘Users’. Open ‘Public’ . Create a new folder there. Copy the files to be transferred over there. As the next step, configure the settings in the other PC or laptop. Now, connect the LAN cable. Open ‘network’ once more. You will see the name of other PC connected. Open the folder created inside Public folder. Cut or Copy the required files. Paste it on to your local drive. Watch transfer of files through LAN cable at high speeds.
