After kitkat, now its Lollipop! Android’s latest version, Android 5.0 Lollipop updates are rolling out across the globe. So, we should know what is new in the latest Lollipop update? What are the newly added features, performance enhancements, how it differ from the older versions and so on.
Features of Android 5.0 Lollipop
1. Fluidic and Smooth User Interface
There are noticeable changes in the new User Interface(UI) of Android L. The UI became more fluidic and smooth. It feels very comfortable while jumping from one app to another, or from a window to another.
The notifications float at the top of the screen in a small box with actionable options on it. You can set priority for sms, calls and even reminders, which is Google’s “Do not Disturb ” mode.
2. Customizable Lock Screen
The lock screen in Android L is more customizable. You can set the content to display on the lock screen. It can be notification from the apps or messages or anything.
3. Better Performance
The runtime and performance increased by about 4 times. Better Graphics and Audio performance. The video and camera features also got some improvements.
4. Guest User Mode and Android Smart Lock
Guest user mode enables you to share your device securely with your friends. Your notifications and personal stuff will be kept safe.
Android Smart lock secures the smart phone or tablet by pairing with your trusted devices like Smart watch, wearables or even the car.
5. Ok Google
“Ok Google” voice search works even when the screen is off. But, this feature works on your phone, only if your phone have a special signal processing capability as in Google Nexus 6 or 9.
6. Extended Battery life
As in every Android update, the battery life increases by a certain amount, Android 5.0 Lollipop makes no difference. The battery saver feature in Lollipop extends your battery life by up to 90 minutes. Many Google Nexus users who updated from Android 4.4 Kitkat to Lollipop reported that the battery performance is very impressive. The battery saver feature when activated reduces background data processes and processor speed significantly. This feature can be used only when 15% battery is remaining. It can be set to activate either automatically or manually.
The charging time of smart phones also got reduced, a bit. While charging, a new feature displays the ‘time remaining to fully charge’.
7. Support more devices
Android 5.0 Lollipop can now power more devices, small screen or big, like smart watch to even your tv and car.
